Perhaps this is a good time to get back to basics -- I just revisited an article that is listed on the banner for the thread and thought it might be useful for many of us to consider the larger brushstrokes of the foreign policy challenges we face, and the implications for the world we live in. I look forward to at least attempting to contribute posts that you would feel comfortable with as "on topic" -- and I appreciate your dedication to making this an intellectually engaging thread rather than a mosh pit.

So... how will the foreign policy of US of A in the 2nd term look like? The same, only more? Will Powell stay or will he get pushed off into the DoD penalty box?

Some of the questions, asked in Europe, that appeared on my radar today...

FL: I promise, for the next 30 days, to make no posts about Iraq. I'd encourage others to make the same pledge, as we are obsessing about it. Perhaps you should allow posts re Iraq only on Mondays, or only on the first day of the month. Or the first Thurday in September, in alternate leap years.

Should I try to keep religion out of my posts? This is going to be hard, since my religion informs my values, and my values guide my politics. The election results show that religiously-defined moral issues (defined very differently than I do) were the #1 issue for Americans, more important than the economy, Iraq, or terrorism, or any other foreign issue.
