You've had a most interesting career from the sounds of things, Andrew... And yes, I can well imagine that getting to know Humphrey as a "real person" was more than interesting. I always felt he was a decent human being, even if he was politically very liberal.

However, I wonder what Humphrey would think today of the current left in his party? I can't imagine him thinking that people like Dean, Gore, Moore, Soros etc are the direction his old party should go.

I'm not a Hubert Humphrey fan either, but he was behind the National Forest Management Act, which is one of the best and most important laws for managing national forests ever. I respect his memory for that.
