Chrysler chief sees Chinese rivals coming to U.S.
Thu Nov 4, 2004 05:07 AM ET
STUTTGART, Germany, Nov 4 (Reuters) - Chinese carmakers are bound to follow their Asian counterparts from Japan and Korea and barge into a U.S. market that is already fiercely competitive, Chrylser chief Dieter Zetsche said.
"You don't need to be clairvoyant to see the Chinese in this position," the head of DaimlerChrysler's (DCXGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) U.S. arm told reporters on Wednesday in remarks embargoed until Thursday.

Excess supply of 3 million cars per year -- two thirds of them imports -- was exerting severe price pressure in the U.S. market, which he called "the battlefield of the automobile industry".
