Remember Hanan Ashrawi? When she was on TV a lot in the 80s I always thought she was eminently reasonable. I think she is a Christian. Any chance of her or people like her to ascend in the leadership over there? Not a chance, imo. She never had power, she just functioned as a press secretary. She knew how the make the PA lie du jour sound reasonable to western reporters. Even she broke with Arafat in the last few years. She has no following. If the PA manage to reestablish some sort of functional government in the West Bank (Heaven only knows what the story is in Gaza), then you may see her take up some position in it.
