Sounds like the hurricanes pushed some of the "nearly there" over the edge. Good for the homeowners, bad for the cracked yeggs.

I don't know very much about drugs, but I'm learning a lot about how crack heads think and act from personal experience. Their need for this drug turns them into total sociopaths. They have NO CONSCIENCE WHATSOEVER! They would rather "borrow" money off you but, if that doesn't work, they will try to scam you out of it. If they can't scam you they will steal it. They have no fear of prosecution because cooperating with the police usually gets them probation. Long time users reach a point where they actually believe that if they need money for crack, and you have the money they need, you're SUPPOSED to give it to them! If you don't, whatever happens to you is your own fault. From what I've experienced, there is no quick fix to this problem. The police cut deals with the offenders, the DA's office honors the deals, and their isn't enough prison space to house them anyway! The only solution I can see at this time is to buy a gun and don't be afraid to use it if you REALLY have to. JMO.
