bad as we Canucks need a winter hangout, I think we prefer Cuba to anything else south of the 49th

yes, in my area, i don't really know of anyone who vacations in the U.S. anymore. Most friends go to Cuba, Belize or some part of Mexico. Costa Rica has been popular, but now various parts of South America seem to be attracting a lot of Canadians -- especially Ecuador.

Alaska has lots of Christian conservatives that keep it aligned with the red states. I bet they'd be scandalized by the design of the official U.S. government check used to purchase Alaska from Russia in 1867... <g>
