Start-up Illuminator, an enterprise application recovery software solutions provider, has secured $5 million in Series A venture funding. The round was led by Greylock Partners and Evergreen Partners.

Illuminator stated that the funds will be used to establish its corporate headquarters in San Mateo, California, as well as to hire additional North American sales, marketing and product staff.

Illuminator was founded in April 2004 as part of software development and integration company Integrity Systems. Illuminator's founders also developed EMC/Legato Systems's NetWorker Operations product.

Illuminator's products help organizations keep mission-critical applications and data available and recoverable, and meet strict regulatory requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA and Gramm-Leach-Bliley, as well as internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Illuminator also announced that Moshe Mor and Aneel Bhusri, general partners at Greylock, and Rona Segev-Gal, general partner at Evergreen Partners, will join its board of directors.

Mor said, "We were impressed with Illuminator's innovative technology and the deep domain expertise of the team. The Restore product addresses a critical market need and we look forward to working with the company to establish its leadership in enterprise application recovery solutions"
