As I read it, it came to me that this "reaching out" bit is just eyewash. We have serious differences. They can't be papered over. Each side works hard to gain a majority so that they can pass legislation THEIR way in spite of the opposition.

When the Democrats had the whip hand, they weren't concerned with "reaching out." They passed what they wanted. Now the Republicans need to do the same. The key sticking point is the need to have a 60 vote majority in the Senate in order to get anything through. We don't have that problem with the House.

I hope the analysis of this election gives the Republicans the guts to override the filibusters. We have to keep in mind that the real opposition to getting it done now is the media, not the Democrats. The media will ratchet up the noise on every issue as it comes to a vote in order to scare the right.
