Will try to answer over the weekend - Yes the politicians in France DO NOT LIKE AMERICANS - that is why they were not in NATO since DeGaule was still in power ... if memory serves me right.

Actively undermining the US started after Desert Storm and the fall of the USSR

Hi first would like to apologies that I did not responded as promised - it just takes to much time to write what I know and justify my point.

Therefore will make it shorter and less convincing.

The rivalry between France and Britain and other of it’s neighbors are well documented in European history it lasted many centuries if not millennia.

France helped the US in it’s independence war not so much out of love for the emerging country but out of their own interest to diminish and cut the size of England's might (just imagine what a power house the upcoming US and England would be in the 19th Century) so lets compliment the French people with foresight. Aside their economic situation turned dire and they were forced to sell Louisiana territory to the US of course.

Nothing in their animosity toward the Anglo Saxon has changed and the same roots of disdain toward Anglo Saxons are still there expressed even if subdued today. This coupled with their unfulfilled dream of being a “Super Power” instead of a Super Cracker” they are today further feed their animosity toward everything American.

For sure the Suez Canal war did not add to the love. The lesson the French learned at the time and later with their war in SE Asia and Algiers was to exploit their Arab connection to punish the US.

In summary the French are no friend of the US and backstabbing is a delight even it it remotely serves their interest …. aside from the fact that European politics with it’s ancient rivalries are quite difficult to sort out.
