I think the mid-term elections will be very important for two reasons:

(1) we want to beat the repubs, that is a given; more importantly,

(2) we need to get rid of dem incumbents who have been on cruise control and have not challenged the bush regime.

I think the democratization of the democratic party will make the latter realistic; we can run promising candidates against "dead wood" in the primaries. If nothing else, it will scare them out of their paralysis.

Here's my expectation calendar...

1- Bush gets whacked large in Iraq
2- Fraud is unearthed in this election
3- The Bush's second term is a disaster
4- In 2 years we elect more Dem's in the House & the Senate & the Governorship
5- Between now and 2 years we expose the Diebold machines and replace with paper ballots
6- We impeach Bush like we did Nixon
