Only, they ain't gonna do it... they will continue to shovel out the pork to their favored constituencies.

Rough budget balance will likely only be achieved (after MUCH economic pain and sub-optimal growth) by the inflation tax, and currency depreciation.

Cuts in discretionary spending cannot be enough to make a serious dent in the budget deficit. They either have to raise taxes or cut entitlements. It will be painful.
