In the late 70s, after a decade of significant RE appreciation (mostly due to high inflation), stock investors were scouring the balance sheets of stodgy companies looking for undervalued RE holdings. These companies were great investment targets since their RE equity was often worth significantly more than the market value of their stock.

This is an old investment idea. I haven't looked around for other prospects since many companies these days lease their RE.
