The story is in the biochemical makeup of the tumor and whether or not it is in the lymph nodes. Only further surgery will reveal that information.

A mastectomy will remove the axial nodes with the tumor. If it's in the nodes she will definitely have chemo. If they do a lumpectomy they will also do an axial dissection ( removal of the axial lymph nodes). Some women choose to be aggressive and take chemo even if the cancer is not in the lymph nodes.

The condition of the lymph nodes is critical.

The affinity of the tumor to estrogen will also help steer her treatment course.

More tests are needed...........I wish her well!!
