And I had a whole big lists of objections to John Kerry, who I thought was a flawed candidate who should not have gotten the nomination (even though I voted for him and wanted him to win). The truth is that there is a really big hole in the Democratic party where charismatic, dynamic leaders should be. I think the Democrats may remain a minority party until they put forth national candidates that are a little less liberal. They need to appeal to reasonable moderates from all sections of the country, and engineer social change at a slightly slower pace to bring more people along with them. I do think Bush should be in treatment for his alcoholism/cocaine addiction/whatever else is wrong with him. It is not enough to just stop drinking. Unless you get therapy of some sort and actually recover, you are just sort of a dry drunk, with a very rigid mindset. Playing that out on the world stage when very immature nations are just getting nuclear weapons is pretty scary to me. Bush runs really ruthless campaigns, letting others do the dirty work for him. The Swift Boat stuff, and his character assassination of Senator Mc Cain in the 2000 presidential primary, reveal a side of his character that I find really unappealing, and totally lacking in integrity. The worst thing for me, though, is that he actually wraps all his own evil doing in religious imagery--he actually referred to it as a Crusade--convincing gullible Christians of his all black and white world view, risking our future, our security, our American everything over a war which is not even about what he said it was and will end up being a disaster for the region and for us, domestically. And that's not all--I don't think the environment can survive four more years of his let's-just-rape-the-earth-and-reap-the profits-for-the-very-rich policies. The funniest thing--somehow he duped a lot of not so well off Americans that he's their guy. I wish every person in the United States was smart enough and cared enough to at least read a weekly newsmagazine--Time, Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report are all reasonably balanced--and actually educate themselves enough to understand the world around them and when they are voting for idiots. The whole world is laughing at us right now, but it's not funny because America is so dominant on the world stage, creates so much violent confrontation and so much pollution. It's really unfair at this point that only Americans should vote for President, because he is hurting everyone on earth in one way or another.
