Slagle, do you consider programs like workers compensation to be socialist?

It's still a labeling problem. Corporations get government hand outs all the time. Why should corporations get them and not individuals? Why?

Why did Bush give $1.2 billion in tax payer money to 'faith based' groups? Why?

Why did Bush provide taxpayer money to the victims of hurricanes? Why?

Collectivism, the ability of humans to band together and help each other, is what makes us successful. That's reality. If you don't think so then get off the grid and see how successful you can be. We have 'socialized' everything: roads, sidewalks, food, water, electricity, sewage, schools, phones, etc. etc.

If you want to live in a nonsocialized world, try living in rural Afghanistan which is as close to pure 'capitalism' (in the most simplistic and incorrect sense of the word) as exists right now: might makes right. If you're more powerful then you rule.

The reality of the world is that US style capitalism ONLY EXISTS in a heavily regulated socialistic world. Without heavy regulation (paper money, infrastructure, laws, prisons, investigations, media, taxes, etc. etc.) you get dictatorship and autocracy.
