The Amendment protects military weapons commonly in use at the current time, that can be carried by people and kept by people. Any carryable weapon in use by National Guards, the Selected Reserves and Active Duty Military is protected by the Amendment. Those who would be unfit for militia duty aren't protected. What is commonly carried? M-16s, M-60s, SAWs for the most part. Are any of these legal. No. Switzerland has a militia type system and each household has a machine gun in it, where the member(s) are fit for militia service. They have the lowest gun crime rate in the world too. Guns don't cause crime they are just a tool.
