Seriously it was hardly a landslide, but it was the first majority in awhile and I believe the biggest vote for a presidential candidate ever So what? Seriously. It was a majority because there was no viable third-party candidate. The reason we haven't had majorities in the past was the influence of third-party candidates. And it was the biggest vote for a candidate because it was such a huge turnout. Fifty one percent of a bigger number is a bigger number than fifty-one percent of a smaller number. Those data are interesting side-bars, but not really meaningful in terms of mandate.
