Charlottesville was one of my favorite places to live (I did grad work at UVa from 72-74.) We lived out in the Keswick/Shadwell area- very rural back then, but probably all suburby now.
Your plan gets Dan's vote.
His dream home is a log cabin on acreage that doesn't need mowing and trimming. He does his best to reproduce that effect here, but the neighborhood association has some silly objection to three foot weeds in the front yard.
