It's not umbrage. It's puzzlement.

Nick and I are about to head out chow-hounding in the Hunt Country, home of some of the richest people on earth, and solid red. Lunch at Hunter's Head Tavern in Upperville, run by a former honcho at Cisco, dinner at It's About Thyme in Culpepper, run by a guy who used to work at the Inn At Little Washington, and visiting antique shops and gourmet grocers in between.

I just don't "get" how Arlandria or Fairlington are more "cosmopolitan." Starbucks and City Paper do not "cosmopolitans" make. Middle income people who can't afford real luxuries make do with Starbucks and Thai restaurants to console themselves that they're somehow superior.
