Much as I loathe the thought of such an attack, I admit I've had much the same thoughts as you. The "civilized" world and in particular our world here has got seriously out of whack. We're living way beyond our means as if permanently entitled to far more than our share.

Should such a loathesome attack happen, I've no doubt that most people will hunker down and return to what is most important.

Of course, there will be exceptions. No doubt the radically orthodox evangelicals will proclaim the end and who knows, they might even have some help in Washington to try to make it so.

The rest of the people, including the more forward thinking (ironically older Churches) have already figured out that what matters most is not some chapters in Revelations and they'll be helpful and what's left will move the country forward.

Its likely the backlash by the public will put the neocons out of business too. There's a plus.

Foreign affairs tie in: it would be preferable to adopt domestic and foreign policies that reduce the chances of such a nasty outcome.
