We've all been hearing about this potential problem for years now, well before even Clinton became president.

There's not a whole lot we can do, at least not quickly. If we make rapid changes that would actually effect global warming, the economy would be seriously impacted and this could potentially lead to the bankruptcy situation you mentioned earlier. The economy MUST continue to grow or we face large national debt issues. We can't afford to make dramatic changes or make changes too quickly.

Remember that the countries that are hardest on the environment are the poor ones. They clear cut, strip mine, contaminate their water, etc. etc. much worse than the USA. That's because their people can't survive if they allocate too many resources to environmental issues.

We can't afford to crash our economy because that would be worse for the environment in the long run.
