There's no reason to not have an audit trail for these voting machines, like you said, just for the peace of mind if nothing else. This election shows that the country is still extremely polarized and it has been since the 60's. Two cultures are trying to live side by side. The 60's let loose the "counter-culture" and it's still here. The two different cultures can't co-habitate. The counter-culture has taken over the Democratic Party and the mainstream still will not embrace that.
