I actually enjoy being told that I am an ignorant fundamentalist fool, it makes me think my party will win many, many elections going forward by people who are too smart to understand why they lose elections.

You and every GOP campaign chairman in the country. But I think Bill is right. The Dems are at "bargaining". They'll move on in a while.

Then I'm sorry to disappoint you by not having called you one, although you perhaps get the same enjoyment from your inference as you would had I actually said that.

What is it about sophisticated people, in your mind, that makes them prefer Democrats?

Good, now that this is no longer about you but rather an abstract discussion...

From thefreedictionary.com: "Having constituent elements from all over the world or from many different parts of the world"

The bigger the city, the more people are packed in tightly with the broadest range of people. Even if they, themselves, are mainstream, they have gotten used to diversity. They have gotten accustomed to oddities, are not threatened by them, and may even enjoy the color and texture. So city people are somewhat less likely to have that traditionalist agenda that energizes some of Bush's supporters but rather have other priorities, some of which may coincide with the Democratic platform.

CB, it only takes a few percentage points of difference in world view between the median big-city dweller and the median middle-America type to make the difference between a red and blue outcome in a close election. My noting a statistically significant difference between two groups is not the same as labeling every individual member of either group or even characterizing the majority of the group.
