Not grating government recognition of an activity or providing government benefits to people is not a restriction of freedom even though it can be argued that it is unfair or is otherwise a bad thing. Same sex couples can marry each other, they can hold whatever type of ceremony they want to hold, the state just won't recognize the marriage or provide any benefits. If you are asking for recognition and benefits than you are asking for someone to do something for you not merely asking for the freedom to do something for yourself.
