Perhaps God would bless the French with memory, so they remembered their own history:

Flanders Field, where they briefly learned the futility of war.
The humiliating Versailles Treaty, imposed while maintaining a food embargo against a starving post-WW1 Germany. This led directly to WW2.
Vietnam.
Algeria.
The French can't even remember 2002, when they told America all the good reasons not to occupy Iraq.
So now, the French are wondering why the citizens of Ivory Coast aren't delighted to be bombed and shot and bullied and generally blessed with French civilization rammed down their throats by French bayonets.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. - Benjamin Franklin
