Your problem is that you don't understand the position. Chairman of the judicial committee does not issue edicts. The chairs a committee that reviews candidates for positions. He has no authority to demand the type of candidates of which he approves. Due to his statement, he may not get the chair position. Not because of a simple abortion issue, but due to the incredible abuse the Democrats have inflicted on the review process his stance definitely implies he might support the Dem abuse of the process via their refusal to allow a vote by the Senate.

Bottom line: Spector is still a Senator. He still has one vote to approve/disapprove a Bush appointee. That's all I care about.
