I have no doubt that most of the country is moderate. What I'm not sure of is how Rove managed to tag Kerry as "liberal" rather than moderate and make it stick. Kerry's viewpoint on gay marriage is exactly the same as Dick Cheney's. His view on the hot-button issue of partial birth abortion was that is was a "no" unless the mother's life was in danger. In fiscal matters, well, who could be more irresponsible than Bush? On national security, John McCain broke with Bush and said Kerry was not "weak" on national security.
