The main reason cost of living is cheaper for you is because WE ALL LEFT. hehe. I remember when Gov Shapp imposed a CAPITAL STOCK TAX (this was a tax on the ASSETS of a company). Well Pittsburgh consisted of CAPITAL INTENSIVE industry which had very small profits but HUGE capital investment. I had clients ACTUALLY BORROWING MONEY to pay their taxes. They sent me all over the USA to find places to relocate. Shapp, IDIOT that he was said THEY WILL NEVER LEAVE CAUSE WE HAVE THE RIVER SYSTEM. Well, THEY LEFT and I LEFT with him. The day of STEAMBOATS WAS LONG GONE. hehe. I still say you got the DUMBEST POLITICIANS in the WORLD only second to MASS. jdn ps: I understand this tax was eventually rescinded but too late the cows were out of the barn.
