Wharf,

Re: Your purported Caesar quote -- It's bogus. Gaius Julius Caesar never said any such thing. Actually, now that I've learned quite a lot more about Caesar's history, his decision to cross the Rubicon actually would be something that most of us on this thread would applaud.

For, you see, Julius Caesar was a populari, a friend of the common man in the Roman Republic. He was loathed by the elite Senators who made up the aristocracy of the era because of Caesar's sense of equality and his efforts on behalf of those who were below the most privileged stratum of society.

Caesar was not killed by the defenders of democracy in Rome. Quite the contrary. He was killed by those attempting to defend their aristocratic privilege.

Interesting, isn't it, how we could have been taught the opposite from our first introduction to ancient history in grammar school? Such is the power of the ruling class that re-writing history must extend to all eras.

For a really good read, and an eye-opener on what you don't know about history, I highly recommend Dr. Michael Parenti's "The Assassination of Julius Caesar". It will change your worldview. And further weaken your belief that the "Establishment" ever tells the truth about anything.
