Discussed the election today with my most liberal mother.

She started out saying, "I don't think we should discuss this."

But she couldn't resist.

She commented on a friend who exchanges e-mails with Europeans on a daily basis, and how that friend commented that the Europeans are all saying, "how could 51% of the American voting public be so stupid?"

Told her frankly I could give a damn what Europe things.

Told her as well that the Dems are headed for the same fate as the Whigs unless they figure out a way to make themselves relevant to that 51% of the voters.

She agreed,

Then went on to tell me that she thought Howard Dean was the saviour of the party. Not.

My mother, sadly, like many liberals, does not understand what has overtaken them. She does not realize that the problem is not with the people who voted for Bush, but with the inability of the Democratic party to field a candidate who will appeal to voters like you and me and many others.

I should resolve not to discuss politics with my mother, or others in my family.

Life is too short.
