Not being there, and not running his vent, I don't know. I wouldn't read anything unusual with respect to his disease process, whatever it is. Basically, anything goes. People can acutely sicken and die, in three days, even on a vent, with every med we can give them. It's just the nature of the game.
I haven't watched much news, so I don't know the circumstances of his hospitalization. Did he walk to the car and his chopper? What about in France? Likely to be weak, whether he walked or had assistance.
Also he would be a cowboy; in denial of his mind, not listening to his wife, whatever, and insisting he could do it his elf. Guys do that a lot. Things like my father, the surgeon, insisting he shave before Mom could take him to the ER to check out a possible heart attack. Cowboy, even if he was a surgeon.
Arafat probably was sicker to start with than you suspected.
