The Palestinians also had that opportunity, but they threw it away, because they decided to focus on hate instead of co-existence. As far as American Indians, I think you finally hit on a legitimate comparison. All I can say about that is that it was a dark period in U.S. history. Manifest Destiny was nothing short of a massive land grab and the Indians got the worst of it. At least many of them are having the last laugh by building casions on their reservations, but it's still a day late and a dollar short. Having said that, the Indians have long ago given up the hate and the violence, as have colonial Americans against the Indians. We learned to live in peaceful co-existence. Arabs have fought for 60 years and have nothing to show for it. They need to wake up and realize it's time to join modernity and learn to live in peaceful co-existence with Israel as well as the rest of the world. Truth is I really don't understand the type of religious zeal on both sides that leads to them being locked in a death spiral over a piece of land. If I were Jewish, I'd have long ago moved to America and have focused on earning a good living and enjoying my family. I'd hate to live in Israel or in the Middle East for that matter. A much better solution that Israel would have been for the U.S. to allow emigration by all the Jews. That would have been the ideal solution, but racism against Jews was alive in America back then even as it was the same throughout the rest of the world at the time. Having said that, you know what Benjamin Franklin said about insanity? He said, "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result each time is the definition of insanity." The Palestinians should look very hard at their repetitive and non-productive actions over the last 60 years and accept that they are acting insanely and that it might be time to snap out of it.
