Lets things past firewalls?

What, like HTTP? (that's a joke - the whole purpose of a browser is to communicate with machines out there on the world wide web... on the other side of your firewall).

Your firewall is the only piece of software / hardware that decides what can go past it, or not. If something "gets past" your firewall, look to your firewall for flaws, not your browser.

Your techy nerd fellow could provide more information perhaps what he is saying would make sense or could be investigated.

In the meantime, IE is by far the least safe browser out there.
