After reading your description of that Ambon paradise, I felt somewhat nostalgic and I could visualize the pristine beaches, the swaying palms, the water lapping on the rocks and sand, the blue sky and billowing clouds, feel the cool breeze, and hear the rollicking fun and laughter and the enchanting strains of melodious kroncong (krontjong) music so reminiscent of the cadence of the waves. Too bad Ambon paradise was wrecked by Islamist elements! As history tends to repeat itself, European countries and the US will do well to note what happened to Ambon.

When I finished my term of service about 30 years ago, I brought back along with me (and I still have them) LP records of Kroncong music rendered by George de Fretes and His Singing Minstrels and also recordings by Marjono and his Boys and also most of Salina's kroncong albums! I listen to them once in a while to bring back some tropical magic of old!

The presence of radical Islamists in the midst of any Christian society is bad news. IMHO, sooner or later, violence is bound to erupt with loss of life. Hopefully, the vigilance of Homeland Security in the US will preclude any radical Islamist attacks in the foreseeable future.
