Trent Lott was not a Dixiecrat.

How do you know?

Because he was 7 years old when the Dixiecrats folded and he didn't become political active for decades after that.

Huh? The dixiecrats migrated to the GOP starting in the mid sixties. Lott was elected to office in 1973.

And even if he wasn't a dixiecrat, comments he has made suggest that he is in sympathy with them.

At a birthday party for a 100 year old man who had run for president many years before, Trent Lott basically said "it would have been good if you have won", and so that supposedly makes Lott a racist...

Apparently, 54 years later, Trent Lott has not gotten over the defeat of the Dixiecrats.

My guess is that 54 years later he doesn't remember the defeat of the Dixiecrats. He probably wasn't that politically aware at 7.

It didn't say he remembered; they say he never got over it.

In any case Trent Lott got booted out of his leadership position over his comments. Byrd who is known to have been a KKK member, never took a serious hit for it from his own party.

Yes, he was in the KKK for a short time in 1943.........5 years before Strom Thurmond ran for President on a segregationist ticker and nearly fifties years before Trent Lott praised the CCC, the descendant of a 1960's racist group, for its work.

I think you hardly have a case. Bush is a reformed drunk. You expect me to get over that. And let me point out, you talk big about cooperating and playing fair but when push comes to shove, its the same ole same ole.

What would be the outcry from Judeo-Protestant commentators if a prominent German politician lamented about Hitler's defeat in 1945? A German conservative who would say that "... Germany wouldn't be the mess it is currently if people had let Hitler and his Nazi regime get their way back in the 1940s..."
