Read this one page:
desiringgod.org

It gives a pretty good summary of why Christians see marriage as made by God and why we feel it is inviolable.

That's an awfully long page. No thanks. In simple English, many Christians believe everything was made by God, so so was marriage. As for being inviolable, uhmmm, what's dat??

You cannot play marriage on a violin?

Christians combine marriage in an envelope and a label (thus it is "inviolable"??

Anyway, I was just trying to understand why some people object to gay marriage but accept gay civil unions. If one if OK, I really don't understand why the other isn't. If both are not OK in someone's mind, I understand their thinking (gays should not be able to publicly and legally commit to being a family/union). I am not saying which view I hold, I'm just trying to understand the technical/legal difference between a civil union and a marriage.
