Keith, I wasn't thinking as widely on teaching foreign languages in schools. Any person from another country should have the opportunity to learn English, and if they want to prosper, should realize the importance of doing so.

Those that would be "guest workers" would not be a part of any student program. Most, if not all, of them just want to come here for part of a year, and go home in the slack season. Those that hire them, usually, can speak Spanish, or have an interpreter to communicate with them. If a Mexican, or any other LEGAL immigrant wants to establish a new life here, it is to the benefit of the American society, to provide classes for them to learn English. Those that just want to come here to work, and go home, are a different story.

If the Italian Americans had not learned English, there would be complaints to the police for assault by wild, Italiano, hand gestures. :^)
