Mindmeld, you are right, too. The Old Testament is brought up a lot whenever people want to bring out the allegedly violent aspects of Christianity. This has been done both by those who are Christians (or at least act in the name of Christianity) and those who attack Christianity.

Hence my question: The way the Bible reconciles the violent Old Testament with the peaceful New Testament is through Jesus, both by his teachings and by his sacrifice on the cross. Among other things, this makes the violence of the OT invalid.

Is there a similar way in which Islam reconciles its peaceful aspects with the violent ones? My suspicion is that there isn't. (Forgive me if I'm asking the same question over again.)
