If Joey decides to drop acid, it may not directly and immediately infringe on my rights. So I gather you would say that is his right.

Now lets say that in doing so Joey fries his stupid brains to a crisp. Is it now also my right to deny him the use of my tax dollars for institutional care for the rest of his worthless life?

I think there are some hypotheticals that may be difficult to defend, but most of the the examples to illustrate the need for legislation to prohibit actions that may cause indirect consequences to others create far more difficulties than the purported good that is intended.

Using your logic than the manufacture of firearms (just to use one example out of a possible thousands) have to be prohibited because there are countless number of accidental deaths and injuries that tax payers would have to pay for.

I would have thought that a true Conservative point of view would require as little government intrusion as possible. Legislating morality seems like a losing proposition.

I would have thought that a true conservative view point would be that as long as you are allowed to reveal the truth, the truth will prevail - and ultimately God will be the final judge and make the appropriate punishment or reward.

I would have thought your (the Conservative viewpoint) job was to lead a good life, set the example, and enlighten others. As long as you are free to do that, then everything will be okay.
