Maybe he meant Medicare should deny the hospice coverage? These couple of years, Medicare puts nursing home and home health reimbursement on a leash, and also cut some of the benefits, but hospice benefits remain unchanged. So thousands of more hospice patients were added nationwide each year, and 30% of these patients died within 7 days after entry, and an additional 35% died within 30 days after entry. But the cost for those last days were sky high. It is not unusual running up $500-$1000/day per patient.
