Right now they can't tell the violent fundamentalists from the violent secular groups in Iraq.

I don't think that is completly true, but to the extent it is the solution is simple even if it isn't easy. I think most of the violence in Iraq comes from violent fundamentalists, but to the extent it comes from people like the former Baath party militia they are our enemies as well.
