Got 'em. Planning on having butternut squash, brussels sprouts, and roasted-garlic-and-artichoke soup for dinner, actually. Plus some meat for Ben, who is on Atkins, and the rest of the guys, who like their meat. Almost done with my semi-annual stove cleaning. The bottom oven is self-cleaning, and can also clean the pieces of the top oven, and the stove burners, which can be removed and placed on the lower oven's racks, but this takes three separate self-cleaning sessions of two hours each. All the baked-on crud and splashes turn into soft gray ash that brushes off with a paper towel. I do the fall cleaning session right before Thanksgiving. Nothing quite so inspiring as a nice clean stove. I also have to clean the refrigerator. It's that time of year. Let me put in a plug for the newest Chowhound board, home cooking.chowhound.com This is my usual Chowhound hangout:chowhound.com And a plug for eGullet:forums.egullet.org I've also joined the Southern Foodways Alliance:southernfoodways.com forums.egullet.org And Slow Food:slowfood.com slowfoodusa.org I mostly got into all this stuff because Chris and the boys like to spend the weekend playing games. So I drive around out in the country sight-seeing, and it's nice to stop at a decent restaurant or country store rather than a fast food joint. I've been to so many beautiful places. This weekend probably a trip to Caladon State Park to see eagles. They are off limits during the nesting season but in the fall you can get close to them. I think I get the better of the deal.
