Mish, here is why China needs so many coals, just to name a few:

**To produce every KW of electricity, China needs to burn 404 grams of coals, while the industrial nations use only 317 grams of coals. So China consumes 27.4% more coals for every single KW of electricity.
**The heating of the residential buildings in China consumes 2-3 times of more energy comparing with developed nations of similar temperatures.
**The industrial boiler in China has 20% lower efficiency.
**The unit consumption of energy in China is, on average, 40% higher than developed nations.
