Cute, but the sub is most likely North Korean or Chinese.

And why do you think that? I don't think it's clear where the sub comes from. It's a non-Japanese sub, so it might as well be an al Qaeda sub (they can swim as well as anyone, or maybe not, there from a big desert...).
