Well, I have personally "rebated" quite a bit of service and money to clients at certain points in a transaction, when not paying referral fees to others, and have let the customer/client pay his own freight if the deal is costing me too much in other ways.

Could also give egregious examples of agents who owed referral fees to a third party and then literally took the money out of the hides of clients/customers during a transaction, to make up the difference in their own paychecks. I'll never forgive one agent who did this to one of my clients--and I decided to make it up to my client myself as a gesture of goodwill and peace.

Also..... what good hard-working agent in his/her right mind would sign up to accept referrals from a referral service, KNOWING UP FRONT that money could be deducted from a future paycheck because a customer/client claims to the third party referral company that he/she is dissatisfied with some aspect of the transaction?????

I suspect that agents who depend on referral services to obtain business have designed personal business models which would not be acceptable if they were making enough money elsewhere on their own.

And I can't forgive or overlook the deceptive way in which these referral fees are presented to the customer, IF they are even presented openly at all. On those internet websites, you have to search pretty hard among the links to even discover any mention of third-party referral fees. All the customer gets is some glowing language about "saving money" or "getting a rebate".
