In Clinton's time, people didn't stay unemployed for long as there were plentiful jobs. So the quoted unemployment figures were very close to real-world unemployment numbers.

I agree, Bush's performance in this area (exporting American jobs) has been outstanding! ;-)

There were very few long-term unemployed in the Clinton years. Long term unemployment is a feature of the Bush economy. The choice is, take a crappy service job that pays less than half of what you're previous job did, or stay unemployed. A lot of people choose to just stay unemployed, even after their benefits are gone, living poorly on retirement and RE.
