"Defeatism is very ugly....and dangerous to boot...."

Agreed but....continuation of an effort that proves to be fruitless is just as bad. I think we will find out over the next several months what our iraq policy will be in Bush43 Term 2. Hopefully Falujah will lead to good things but guys like GST and ED touch on the truth sometimes in their polemics when they bring out that things in iraq really have not gone according to plan so far. Given that, i will re-propose my suggestion to set an exit date if iraqis cannot seem to take over responsibility of this war from us by themselves. I think a deadline will give those iraqis a kick in the ass perhaps necessary for them to choose sides once and for all. Having said that, i am not going to lose sleep over falujah--the destruction going on is the responsiblity of the terrorists and baathists.
Also keep in mind that the charges of atrocities and mass deaths will be coming soon just as they did in Jenin when the international press decided a massacre was going on when of course none was. Thank God Al Jazeera is not in Falujah. mike

Jlallen, re: Defeatism is very ugly....and dangerous to boot....

Nice slogan. Here are a few more slogans you might like to put under your "thinking" cap:

*Ignoring reality does not change reality,

*Running your head into a brick wall does not usually damage the bricks,

*Better to recognize and avoid certain death than to whistle cheerful tunes in the dark and hasten toward it, and, finally,

*It's easy to bravely send others to die in a doomed enterprise, not so easy to go and die yourself.

If that's too nuanced for you let me know and I'll use smaller words. Ed
