Because it is the biggest and the best-run; the one that can squeeze its suppliers the hardest.

I think it's the early history of Walmart, which got it on the radar screens. Remember all the fights in red America when Walmart came to down and "destroyed" main street and changed small town culture? We don't hear much about that anymore. Now the focus is on outsourcing, supplier squeeze, and low wages.
