I don't think that the statements expressed in his article show contempt for and estrangement from more than a small fraction of Kerry's voters. He doesn't express disdain for Democrats in general, merely for those who are calling for secession and those who think that most or all of the voters for Bush "are simply hate-filled bigots who have no place in America".

Z indicates that everyone he talks to is upset about the election and has considered secession. The Canadian gov't got a huge increase in hits on its website last week. Many people on SI have PM'd suggesting that they are thinking of leaving the US. This is all anecdotal but its an indication of something.

People are frustrated and/or angry and surprisingly, don't balk when the conversation turns to secession. They are very unhappy with the way things are going in this country and Bush does not represent their concerns at all. And these are not people who normally are partisan. In fact, I have never heard this kind of reaction after an election.

The article that Wharf posted yesterday about the South struck a chord with me. It resonates loudly with whomever I show it. The right constantly complains about the left. Well, for the left, its now gotten to the breaking point. I am sick to death hearing about how you all have the market cornered on morality, religion and defense, and that we are slackers holding the country back.

Sorry but I don't think Mr. Blandley[sp?] is reading the little guy on the left very well.

I can't predict what's going to happen over the next few years, but if Bush behaves like he has these past 4, then I suspect there may be some serious problems.
