> Question: Does the US need for oil influence foreign policy?

Sure, to some extent. I have even discussed it on this thread. However, we did not invade to secure Iraqi oil. We did, partially, to protect regional oil supplies against Iraq.

Show any evidence that Iraq was a clear and present threat against regional oil supplies.

Question? To what extent is US foreign policy, in the Middle East, centered on access to oil? Is it...

- a marginal but constant and recurring theme taken into account
- an important factor frequently weighed in foreign policy decisions
- an important factor almost always weighed in foreign policy decisions
- a primary factor / goal through which other decisions are viewed
- the ultimate factor where other goals are secondary
